China-Australia Joint Laboratory for Functional Molecules and Ordered Matters Unveiled

On the morning of April 5, the opening ceremony of the "China-Australia Joint Laboratory for Functional Molecules and Ordered Matters" was held in the lecture hall in the Chemistry Building. Tongji University principal Zhong Zhihua and academician of the Australian Academy of Science, Australian National University professor Martin Banwell jointly unveiled the joint laboratory. Vice President Gu Xianglin attended the ceremony and delivered a speech. Mark Humprey, Professor of National University of Australia, Anthony Hill, Director of Inorganic Chemistry, leaders form School of Scientific Research, Propaganda Department, Foreign Affairs Office, and nearly 100 teachers and students participated in the opening ceremony.

On behalf of Tongji, Gu Xianglin first expressed his gratitude all foreign professors from afar to participate in the preparation of joint laboratory. He pointed out that the "China-Australia Joint Office of Functional Molecules and Ordered Matters” will help to share innovation resources, strengthen the complementary advantages through collaborative innovation ,output of high-level scientific and technological achievements and joint training of high-level talent, thus it will effectively promote China and Tongji University in the chemical development of innovation.

Professor Martin Banwell gave a lecture entitled "Aspects of Research and Training in Organic Chemistry at the Australian National University" for all participants. He said he was very pleased to witness the establishment of the joint laboratory. He will further play a bridge role in effective promotion of the two schools in the chemical field and will spare unremitting efforts in common development in the future work and research.

Anthony Hill, Mark Humprey, Zhang Zhang, Li Liangchun, He Xiaoming, Yan Bing and other professors also brought wonderful academic reports to teachers and students.

"China-Australia Joint Laboratory of Functional Molecules and Ordered Matters", as an important research platform between Tongji University and Australian National University, will jointly declare international and domestic cooperation projects, will hold international conference, and focus on personnel training to train and cultivate talents and teachers.
